We had a lot of fun today dissecting the owl pellets we got from our Field Trip to the Reservoir the other day!

Day 149 - Middlesex Math Madness Tourney - Mrs. Burns - Memorial School Grade 5

(This past weekend) was the Middlesex Math Madness Tournament held at Memorial Elementary. Twenty- five teams from 9 different towns competed in a Math-Olympiad type tournament. Memorial was well represented with two fourth grade teams and two fifth grade teams. Burlington also had teams competing for Francis Wyman, Pine Glenn and Marshall Simonds Middle schools.

Pictured below are the fabulous fifth grade teams. Rushil Patel was the highest scoring fifth grader in the individual event and tied with four other students for third- place in the individual competition. A nail biting tie-breaker determined the third-place winner would be from Tewksbury. One of the fifth grade teams was 1 point away from being tied for third place for the team event. Congrats to all the fourth and fifth graders!

We had some Memorial Alumni from Marshall Simonds win top prizes. Max Samulka, 6th grade, won 2nd place for the individual event and the Marshall Simmonds team including Memorial Alumni, Kris Poirier -won 2nd place for the team event!

The other two winners were from Newton and Tewksbury

                                          Top winning teams from Wilmington, Burlington, and Newton.

Day 141 - Animal Habitats and Adaptations - Mrs. Kippenberger - Memorial School Grade 3

Ms. Pavlicek came by to visit the third grade today. 

She did a wonderful job teaching animal habitats and adaptations. 

Students should  be able to tell you why animals live in different habitats, what adaptations help them survive in their habitats, and what all plants and animals need in order to survive.

Day 130 - String Update (Performance Day!) - Mrs. Rzasa and Mrs. Niu - Memorial School Music

Today was PERFORMANCE DAY for the 3rd Graders!! (4th Graders are working on their challenging concert music). This is an opportunity for each student to play a piece that represents their best.  Below are some of the benefits of Performance Day:

• Students play for, and inspire, their peers
• Students gain independence playing alone
• The more frequently they perform, the less nerves there will be come concert time
• I can more accurately assess each student, and help them one-on-one
• Each student becomes a teaching tool for the others in class, and students may offer suggestions to help their peers. 
• It's fun!

Day 89 - The Lowell Mills - Mrs. Cyr - Memorial School Grade Three

We had a fabulous day in Lowell today! I was so proud to be the teacher of such wonderfully behaved children. The museum guide was very impressed at our background knowledge and thoughtful questions.

Here we are learning about farm life and factory life. Did you know the mill boys made more money than the mill girls?

Here we are experimenting with different tools that will make cleaning the cotton easier.
