Day 180 - Bubble Man - Sarah Visocchi - Pine Glen Grade 4

Have you worked with bubbles today?  If you have washed your hands, brushed your teeth, and had breakfast (digestion), then you have worked with lots of bubbles according to the Bubble Man!  On Tuesday, we experienced an amazing show all about bubbles.  We learned some of the science behind bubbles, as well as received information about how to build our own bubble makers.  So get some bubble liquid and start making bubbles!

Can you make a snowman with bubbles?
Do you know how to blow a bubble around a dinosaur?  It's a whole new Jurassic World! Try it at home!
Ellie in a bubble!

Ellie even got to try!

Thank you so much to our Pine Glen PTO for enriching our students and teachers with such a fun program!

Students had a special treat  when they came back from the Reservoir field trip. Each class had two Owl Pellets to dissect. Using a Dichotomous Key, they dissected  the pellets with toothpicks and forks.Carefully they pried away the fur to find bones from the owl's prey.

They used deductive reasoning to figure out what type of mammal the Owl had consumed.  This was simply Amazing to watch!! One of my Favorites.

Mrs. Doherty and Mrs. Cunha's classes rotated in to my room for this scientific experience. Many students were leary of touching the pellet thinking that it was poop. I explained to them that it wasn't and eventually with the help of some surgical gloves all students enjoyed this hands on activity.

Day 162 - Plants and Procedural Writing - Miss Smith - Pine Glen Grade 1

This post first appeared on Miss Smith's Blog

First Graders were hard at work this week! In science we learned all about plants and their parts! We also got to do some planting. After we planted, we learned a new type of writing-- procedural. We learned the features of a procedural text and then wrote a procedural piece as a class and published it as a video. We had a blast recording our segments!

Day 90 - Light It Up - Mrs. Lynch - Pine Glen Third Grade

Kaitlyn and Erin completing the Circuit!!

Checking out the materials

Alli and Alexis using the double battery circuit.

Testing classroom supplies

Ryan and Skyla using the switch

Rubber acts like an insulator

Testing conductors

Aditya and Kate lighting it up!!

Cora and Henry had success too!
Students receive their materials and using their knowledge  of electricity, conductors, and insulators they need to assemble a circuit that lights up a bulb using batteries and switches. Many  of them had success.
Great experiment to wrap up our electricity unit. Well done 205!
